*** Something Sweet, Something Crunchy, Something Fun ***
These crispy crunchy apple chips will disappear almost as quickly as you make them!

They are super easy to make. Just one ingredient –apples, and four kitchen tools: a knife, two baking sheets, some parchment paper, and an oven.
They are fun to make and create meaningful family moments. It is a family-friendly, kid-friendly recipe for the whole family to spend time together.
When the whole family is involved in planning fun activities, you'll have more opportunities to experience special moments. The weekend is coming. Let’s plan a family fun apple day:
Go to a local orchard. Enjoy beautiful golden fall scenery, taste a couple of apples to find your favorite type(s), and pick your own apples. They may not be as big as the store-sold ones, but they are so fresh, juicy and aromatic. Actually, smaller apples suit better for this recipe, since it is easy to cut them into slices with even thickness.
Then bake with your kids when you get home, Kids wash apples, you slices apples, and kids help to spread slices in baking sheets (see recipe below).
The last and the most rewarding part: the whole family sit in a couch enjoying the super sweetness, crispiness and crunchiness of the delicious home-made chips.
And the next day, you’ll have a ready-made stash of snacks to sweeten up a lunchbox.
Ingredient: 6 small apples (2.5-inch diameter)
or 3 big apples (3.5-inch diameter)
Tools: a serrated knife, two baking sheets (11 x 17 inch), 2 sheets of parchment paper (cut into the same size as your baking sheets), and an oven
Preheat your oven to 225 F.
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
Cut the apples into thin slices, 1/8 – inch - thick suggested.
Spread the apple slices on the baking sheets, making sure you have no overlapping edges (if they overlap, they’ll stick to each other and they won’t dry properly).
Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven, one on the top rack, and one on the bottom rack.
Bake for 1.5 hour.
Switch two baking sheets to ensure even cooking (two steps: . move the one on bottom rack to the top and move the one on the top rack to the bottom rack; and . turn the pan itself around)
Bake for another 1.5 hours or until the apple slices are dried and edges curl up.
Let the chips cool down and turn crispy
Serve; and store the remaining in an airtight container (like the one below) to keep its crispiness.
I used the serrated knife to slice the apples. 1/8 – inch – thickness is highly recommended. If it is too thin, the chips won’t be crispy and crunchy enough. If they are too thick, it takes much longer to dehydrate, and may yield the flavorless leathery texture. If you want perfectly even apple slices, you can use a mandolin to slice them.
I left the core to keep the pretty star shape in the center.
Use a toothpick to remove the seeds.
Any kind of apples can be used for this recipe: pick your favorite variety. I like sweet apples like Gala, Fuji, and honey crisp apples.
